Jurca to Compete in Jetta TDI Cup Driver Selection
March 26, 2008
number one ranked shifter kart driver David Jurca is hoping to make
the jump into sports car racing in 2008 by competing in the new
Jetta TDI Cup series. Jurca has been officially chosen for the driver
selection event taking place at Firebird Raceway April 3-5. After
a successful 2007 season that was highlighted by a Pro Shifter Championship
at the Florida Winter Tour, and victories at the IAME International
Challenge in Spain as well as the TaG World Championships, Jurca
is certainly ready for the challenge.
For the last year and a half, David Jurca has been racing, coaching,
and working for Italian Motors USA, a racing team led by Sun Trust
Racing’s Michael Valiante of the Grand Am series. Prior to
that, he also raced for the team for more than five seasons. Additionally,
Jurca is taking online courses at Highline Community College. He
has over one year of college under his belt and has maintained a
4.0 GPA while continuing in his racing.
“In January, I sat down with Michael Valiante and talked to
him about the potential of the Jetta TDI Cup,” Jurca said.
“He and I both agreed that it is a step forward for my career
as a driver. I will now focus my efforts on making it through the
driver selection event so I can compete in the full season of competition.
Although the first two TDI Cup events conflict with the Stars of
Karting Series, I will continue to be a driver for Italian Motors
and the ItalKart Factory Racing Team in the rest of the Stars of
Karting ICC races starting with New Castle, Indiana. I would like
to thank Italian Motors for continuing their support for me in the
Making its debut on American shores this summer, the Volkswagen
Jetta TDI Cup series is an innovative approach to motorsports. The
Jetta TDI Cup is composed of 30 factory-prepared and managed 2008
clean-diesel Jetta TDIs, piloted by talented drivers aged 16 to
26, who are relative unknowns. Volkswagen’s goal is to find
the driver with the most talent and help them break into the world
of professional motorsports.
The concept is as revolutionary as the car, which is powered by
a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder TDI, clean diesel engine. The Jetta TDI
is lightly modified from spec, featuring race-ready suspension and
brakes, and a 6-speed double-clutch automatic DSG transmission.
Additionally, to highlight its environmental dedication Volkswagen
has partnered with Carbonfund.org to certify the entire race series
as carbon free.
Currently, David Jurca’s 2008 efforts are being supported
by Serengeti Design, Redapt, CMSI, European Tile, Best Ceramic,
Italian Motors, Speed Secrets, Bell Helmets, and Oakley. For more
